Benefit Foundation Kit Review!

Hey, everyone! I hope ya’ll had fun and safe Labor Day weekends! I spent mine in Chicago for a Luke Bryan concert and it was awesome! Cole Swindel, Lee Brice, and Dierks Bentley were also performing that night, so it was full of country craziness. I loved it! Before we went to the concert though, we got to get in some good down town Chicago shopping and, of course, I had go stop in at every makeup and beauty store I passed. I used far too much money and bought way too many things, but hey. What’s life without shopping, right? (:

Anyway, I stopped in at a Sephora store, and I had been wanting to try Benefit’s Hello Flawless foundation for quite some time, so I went to go check that out. Over in the Benefit section, I found the cutest little foundation kit that included a sample size of the Hello Flawless foundation, plus some other goodies, for only $32 so I bought that instead just to kinda test-drive everything before going in and purchasing full size. It’s been quite some time since I’ve done a review for ya’ll, so today I’ve got a really in-depth review over the foundation kit for ya! Read on to see if it’s a match for you (:

    three piece foundation set

Here’s a picture of the complete set for ya. This set is called the Benefit Flawless Complexion Makeup Kit and I got it in the shade medium (they also had light and dark). The box furthest to the left is the actual box everything came in, the one in the middle is the kit with everything inside, and then to the right is a little instruction manual. Even though everything is pretty self explanatory. haha

far away set picture

When you flip the kit top back, this is everything that’s inside it. Up at the top, it has a little booklet on the best ways to apply and wear everything. It was pointless to me, but I think it would come in handy for a beginner or someone looking to really master their makeup skills. When I saw the actual kit part, I went a little girl crazy. The sample sizes are so teeny tiny and ADORABLE that I just can’t even. Yep, I’m speaking in fluent bitch voice right now. I literally cannot even. THEY ARE SO CUTE AND TINY. Cody didn’t understand my obsession, but I know ya’ll feel me. Everything is cuter when it’s in a mini version. Don’t even lie to me.

foundation set

The main reason I purchased this was so I could try out a sample size of the Hello Flawless foundation before committing to a $40 full size bottle. But I’m also actually extremely excited to try out the Porefessional! Pores are a huuuge problem for me, so I’m eager to see if this will work (if any of ya’ll have tried it out, definitely shoot me a comment down below and tell me your thoughts!). Besdies the Porefessional and the foundation, this little kit also comes with Benefit’s Boi-ing concealers and a setting powder, as well as a mini brush to apply it with. The instruction booklet says that you’re supposed to mix both shades of the concealers to get your perfect match, but I actually really love the look of highlighted under eye areas, so I think I’ll test out the lightest one for that for sure. And I doubt if I’ll use the brush on a daily basis, but it’ll defiantly be awesome for travel.

foundation swatch

This is a quick swatch of the foundation. Keep in mind that iPhone cameras aren’t the best things in the world so the coloring is a bit off! I think this color will go pretty well with my skin tone. It blended in beautifully and didn’t look too yellow or neutral so it will work for me. It has an odd scent to it, so I’m hoping that won’t be a problem when I go to actually apply it to my face. It blended out pretty sheer as well and, for someone like me with rosacea, sheer foundations don’t have enough coverage. I’m a little unsure about this Hello Flawless foundation right now, but we’ll see how it actually works out for me!

concealer

And last but not least, here’s what the Boi-ing concealers look like up close. I think the colors are gonna be perfect me, so I’m eager to give that a try and I absolutely love love LOVE this little pull-out container they come in! Perfect for traveling and on days when I’m needing to touch up, I can just stick this in my purse and go! The formula is really creamy and rich and seems like it will blend wonderfully. Super excited to give these a try!

All in all, I’m pretty excited to try everything out in this kit. There’s some products I’ve been wanting to try for awhile as well as some new ones and, if ya’ll know me, you KNOW I’m a sucker for cute packaging. And Benefit definitely got this one on point! When you’re finally done with everything in this kit, you can pull out the middle part and then you just have a cute, little storage box! I’m overly excited about that box. haha Of course, if ya’ll have used this kit or anything in it before, leave me a comment below and tell me all about it, whether it’s good or bad. I wanna know what I’m getting myself into! And once I’ve used everything for awhile, I’ll have an updated review for ya and a picture of what everything looks like on me personally. Keep a look out for that! As always, don’t forget to like this post and give me a follow for more beauty/makeup related posts like this one (: Thanks so much for hanging out with me for a little bit tonight and I’ll talk to ya’ll later!

Gotta Have It or Live Without It: Nyx Natural Eyeshadow Palette

Hey, everyone! Happy Friday! Before I start my post today, I just wanna apologize that I haven’t posted as much this week as I would have liked to! I’ve been sooo busy. My mom just left and is going to be outta town for the weekend, so I’ve been helping her get packed and get things ready for her trip, among other things I had goin’ on this week. I’m hoping this weekend, or into next week at least, that I’ll get back to posting on a more regular basis! Anyway, today I’ve got a Gotta Have It or Live Without It makeup review for ya!

ImageThis is the newest eye shadow palette that I’ve purchase and it’s the Nyx Natural Palette! And I would like to take this moment to point out just how not centered it is in this picture… I had no idea it was that bad when I uploaded it. Embarrassing. hahah Anyway, you can get this eye shadow palette anywhere Nyx cosmetics are sold and I purchased mine at Ulta. Up in the top right corner is actually the price tag which did not come into focus, but I bought mine for $7.49. Kind of a weird price, but I didn’t feel that it was expensive at all since this palette comes with six different shadows.

ImageHere’s what all the shadows look like in the open package! I wish I would have gotten the time to swatch all of these shadows for ya, but I honestly didn’t even think about it. I would have preferred these shadows be a bit more pigmented than they actually are, but you don’t typically get too much color pay off with powder shadows. They’re not sheer by any means and still show up beautifully once you apply them, but for some you have to layer once or twice to get your desired color. Not too big of a deal, but I just wanted to warn any of ya in case that would be a problem.

Anyway, on to the shadow talk! As you can see, these shadows are nice and natural and the last two are perfect for a daytime smokey eye! I bought this palette about two weeks ago and I’ve been wearing some variation of a natural smokey eye almost every day! So this palette has already gotten a lot of wear time with me! I know my iPhone camera kind of distorted the coloring of these shadows, but that first shadow there on the far left is just a snow white color. It makes sucha pretty eyebrow highlight! And when you’re doing an eye look with these shadows, that white color just blends everything together perfectly. Love it. This palette also has the perfect mix of shimmer and more matte looking shadows, so depending on what you’re feeling that day or what look you’re going for, there’s defiantly going to be a shadow in here for ya to use.

Final Verdict? It depends! I wouldn’t say this is a product you need to drop everything and go out and buy right now at this exact second, but I do recommend it! These aren’t the best shadows that I’ve used, but they’re definitely 100% not the worst! For their price, you can’t go wrong. This is the perfect palette for beginners and those who are wanting to ease into learning how to do a smokey eye. Plus, this is going to make a great travel palette for me this summer! It’s small and compact and not expensive, so I can leave my more high-end shadows at home when traveling and bring this instead and still get a really pretty, fun look. If you’re someone who is more into more glammed out and sexy eye looks, I defiantly wouldn’t suggest you get this. I would hate for you to be disappointed. I just really love neutral colors with natural looks, so this was defiantly something I felt I needed to purchase! So, if you’re like me, this is something you’ll like! Basically, I’m really enjoying this palette and I’m happy I bought it!

Thanks so much for reading and be on the look out for my next few posts because I’m hoping to get back on a more daily posting schedule now that things have chilled down a bit! I’ll talk to ya’ll later! Have an awesome weekend!

Liebster Award Nomination Update & Thank Yous!

Morning, everyone! So, crazy story time: I just got nominated for the Liebster Award by two lovely people! This will officially make my fourth nomination for this award! Whaaaaat?! This is so insane and I am so appreciative of this. I was nominated by Y. Zheng (http://randomblogyz.wordpress.com/about/about-the-author/ ) and Annalissamarie (http://annalissamarie.wordpress.com/ ). I don’t know Annalissamarie very well, but after I checked out her blog, I can’t wait to get to know her more! Her blog covers beauty, fashion, and lifestyle, so there’s something for everyone! Plus, she has a Yorkie Poo. That’s enough to get me to be best friends with someone. haha Y. Zheng on the other hand, I made a connection with! We just kind of clicked right away! Y’s blog is some place I go whenever I need some relaxation or positivity in my life. Such an amazing writer! We’re constantly in each other’s comments supporting each other and chatting. (: I just wanna give a huuuuge shout out and thank you to the both of them for thinking of me for this award and for supporting me. Ya’ll are the best!

The Liebster Award Rules:

1. You have to link back to the person that nominated you.
2. You must answer all 11 questions given to you by the person who nominated you.
3. After completing these questions you must nominate 11 bloggers with under 200 followers and give them 11 questions of your choice.
4. You must not nominate the person who nominated you.
5. You must let your nominees know that they have been nominated and provide a link for them to your post so that they can learn about it

Now, the thing is, I just recently got nominated for this award last week ( https://psmeganelizabeth.wordpress.com/2014/05/29/the-liebster-award-nomination-thank-yous-and-nominees/ ) as well as The Very Inspiring Blogger Award ( https://psmeganelizabeth.wordpress.com/2014/05/22/the-very-inspiring-blogger-award-nomination-and-thank-yous/ ) and I can’t continue to nominate the same people over and over, so this post is just gonna be more of an update kinda thing (:

Here are the fun questions Y asked me and the other fellow nominees:

  1. If you won a free airplane ticket to travel to anywhere in the world, where would it be? I would, without a doubt, pick a ticket back to my hometown of Dallas, Texas. I left when I was 13 or 14 years old and have missed it ever since. A few Christmases ago, one of my best friends that I’ve grown up with, Jake, was tragically killed in a car wreck. He was buried in Dallas and I would love the chance to be able to go visit his grave. A part of me will never be able to heal fully until I’m able to do that.
  1. What is the one word you dislike when people are using to describe you? hahah This is so funny to me because people use so many different words to describe me! My friends even say that I can be bitchy at times, but I take that as a compliment. I’ve been through a lot, I have a backbone, and I love that about me. My favorite thing though was, during high school, one of my good friends, Aaron, called me fearless. That stuck with me and that’s a word that I use to carry out my daily life! Love that.
  1. If you can change the name of a food, what would it be? Cheese curds. hahah What’s wrong with mozzarella sticks? Nothing, that’s what. Cheese curds sounds disgusting!
  1. If a stranger hands you a hundred dollar (pound, euro, whatever your currency), what would you spend it on? I’d put some away for my cosmetology program tuition that I’m attending this January and then I’d donate the rest to a local animal shelter.
  1. If you’re a reincarnation of a famous person, who would you want it to be? Well, she’s not dead, but if I could be any celebrity, I’d love to be Jennifer Lawrence for a day! People have told me that I act just like her that’s one of greatest compliments anyone could ever give me. haha I’m girl crushin’ on her!
  1. If you can have any job in the world, what would it be? A full-time blogger and a foster parent to dogs! That’s my dream.
  1. If you were a pop icon living a double life, what would your pop icon name be? Probably Megatron haha That was one of my nicknames in high school and people still call me that!
  1. If you can have an ice cream flavor named after you, what would be? Again, Megatron. And I’d have chocolate and carmel swirls in it because that’s my fave. Yummm.
  1. What is the one word you like people to describe you? Hilarious. I love it when people comment on my sense of humor.
  1. If you can time travel to any destination in time, what year would it be? This is so cliche, but I’d love to meet Jesus!
  1. If you can wake up to any sound, what would it be? I love the way I wake up now. With my fur babies stinky dog breath in my face, paws clicking on the floor, and tails wagging against stuff on my nightstand and knocking it off. Love my 5 dogs to the moon and back.

(I apologize that the numbering was off on this! I copied and pasted it from Y’s post and I guess it didn’t translate over to my blog for some reason so now it just looks like I can’t count. haha)

And here are the creative questions that Annalissa asked me and her other nominees:

What are your top 5 can’t live without products? I’m not gonna get into brands, but my top 5 makeup must-haves are foundation, concelear, primer, powder, and my setting spray.

Who is your inspiration? My mom. (: She’s battled thyroid cancer and skin cancer several times, but she’s all good now! I’m so glad to have her fighting genes. I come from a strong family.

Biggest splurge? Every time I go into Ulta or Sephora, it’s a bit of a splurge. haha I haven’t bought this yet, but I’m saving up for a Michael Kors bag and a Clarasonic Mia 2! Can’t wait.

If you had to give up make up completely how would you feel? I’d probably barricade myself in my room and fall into a deep state of depression. Is that sad? haha

Do you watch YouTube gurus? Who? I sure do! Jaclyn Hill and Nicole Gurrero are my babes ❤

Best makeup brand in your opinion? Drugstore: Maybelline. High-End: Mac or Benefit

If you could style/ makeup any celebrity who would it be And what would you do? Lupita Nyong’o! I don’t know anything about fashion, but I’d loooove to style her because she takes the biggest fashion risks and always looks so stunning, beautiful, and flawless. Love that chick.

Favorite makeup trend ? I think primers and face washes are really getting a moment right now and that makes me happy. I also love summer makeup because it’s so experimental and bright!

What does your blog name mean? p.s megan elizabeth just sounded cute to me haha

Favorite quote ? Oh, geez. I have waaay too many favorite quotes, it’s impossible to pick one! I love love LOVE this one: “Sky above her. Earth below her. Fire within her.” I have plans to turn that into a tattoo this summer (:

Best make up tip/ advice ? ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS WASH YOUR FACE AT NIGHT! Ladies, please! For the love of all that is good in this world, WASH YOUR FACE NIGHTLY!!!! I seriously cannot stress that enough.

(I apologize that the spacing is off on this one. Seriously, what’s wrong with me? haha I’m so computer challenged it’s a pathetic.)

If you wanna see the blogs that I love please go check out the two lovely people who nominated me for this award and click on the link to my other awards to check my nominees out over there (: Another big thank you to Y and Annalissa for thinking of me! Ya’ll are so awesome and I can’t think you enough. I so appreciate this. Thank ya’ll for reading today and don’t forget to like and give me a follow if you haven’t already (: Talk to ya later!
