DIY Crayon Art!

Hey, Everyone! I’ve got a little DIY comin’ at cha on the blog today and I’m super excited about this one! This is the ever famous crayon art! This is an idea that I got off of Pinterest (my one true love, I’m a Pinterest junkie) and I just absolutely had to try it out. Before I continue though, I do just wanna apologize really quick for the sideways picture… I’m literally the most technology challenged person ever and took this picture off my iPhone. It didn’t want to turn right side up, so I didn’t force it. hahah Anyway, this defiantly isn’t something that you’re going to get done in a matter of minutes, but trust me, when you finally are done with it, I think you’ll be really pleased. Besides, you’ll feel like a little kid again making this project, it’s messy and fun! So let’s get to it!

For this DIY project, you’ll need a few things: a canvas (whatever color you prefer), a box (or several boxes) of crayons, a hot glue gun, a hair dryer, and tons of newspapers or wax paper for covering the area around you from crayon splatter! You can even wear gloves to protect your hands since some splatter might get on you and it might burn. This did happen to me, but it only burns for a second or two and never left any red marks on my skin, so you can go without gloves if you want to. They’re not 100% necessary. This is a cheap project (if you couldn’t tell by now, I’m not into expensive things haha). I purchased my black canvas for about $5 at Hobby Lobby, and I picked up a 64 count of Crayola crayons at Walmart… not sure about the price of the crayons, but I can assure you, it won’t break the bank. haha Depending on how big your canvas is, you’ll need more or less crayons, so buy accordingly. Remember, it’s always better to have too many crayons than too little!

Once you have all your supplies laid out in front of you and you’ve got your newspapers laid down and an old shirt on, you can get to work! The first thing you do is lay out your crayons and organize them on your canvas exactly how you wish to glue them down. After you’ve done that, get to gluing! If you’re doing this project with any kids, make sure to supervise and help them, as hot glue is a difficult thing to work with without burning yourself. Once you’ve glued them all down, let them set for about 10 to 15 minutes to assure that the glue will hold. When that time is up, plug in your hairdryer and start drying! This is the slow part of the process, it will take a little while, so be patient. Always make sure that you are drying DOWN since that’s the direction you want you crayon to melt. When your crayons start melting and dripping down the canvas, that’s when you’ll start seeing the splatter, so be extremely careful at that point. Make sure all pets are out of the room, I would hate for any fur babies to get unintentionally burned in the making of crayon art! Once you’ve finished melting all the crayons and all the colors have successfully dripped down the canvas creating a really fun, colorful waterfall, you’re done! Just let it sit overnight to assure everything is dry and set.

I made this for my boyfriend last year and he loved it, it now has an honorary place up on his wall and will be coming to our new apartment with us this summer! You can customize this any way you’d like by adding pictures, notes, sayings, or other little embellishments to make this 100%, perfectly yours. I hope ya’ll enjoyed this DIY blog post today and I’m excited for some of you to try it out! If you’ve done this before, let me know how it went for you! And, as always, leave a comment below if you have any questions about this, I’ll reply ASAP! Have fun and get crafting!

XOXO, Megan (:

DIY Makeup Brush Holders!

DIY Makeup Brush Holders!

Ladies, I KNOW ya’ll feel me on this: there’s nothing that’s a bigger pain in the butt than trying to get ready in the morning and (I don’t know about you, but for me, that usually consists of being half asleep in a pre-caffeine daze) trying to put on your makeup and struggling through the masses to find the brush you’re looking for. Taking to Pinterest to solve this problem (I’m a Pinterest addict!), I stumbled upon all these suuuuuper cute ideas for DIY makeup brush holders! Brimming with new ideas, I got myself to Walmart to buy the few things I needed.

All you need in order to do this yourself are cute glass holders; marbles, rocks, or beads of some kind; ribbon in any color; some hot glue; and a little bit of time! As I mentioned, I picked up all of my supplies at Walmart. I got my square glass jars for less than $4 each, my ribbon for less &1, and then my marbles (those ones with the flat-ish bottom, usually seen in fish bowls haha) for less than $2! Since mint green/seafoam green is my favorite color, I stuck to that color scheme and got my ribbon and marbles in those colors.

The assembling part is SO EASY, you won’t believe it! All you do is tie your ribbon around and hot glue it accordingly. If you wanna tie a bow like I did, even better (: Give them some time to cool down (pleeeease be careful, I burnt myself several times! haha) and then you put your marbles, rocks, or beads in and, bada bing bada boom, your DIY makeup brush holders are done! The marbles or whatever else you choose, are gonna help keep your brushes standing up and a little bit separated instead of just cluttering all together. And I have to tell ya, this has made my morning routine sooo much easier!

Best of luck and happy creating! (:
