Gotta Have It or Live Without It: L’Oreal True Match Foundation!

Hey, everyone! Happy Wednesday! I hope your weeks are going great so far. Cody and I are finally beginning to settle down into our new apartment, though we still have plenty of decorating to do! (If you want to see a video tour of our new apartment, click here: https://psmeganelizabeth.wordpress.com/2014/06/22/my-first-video-upload-ever-new-apartment-tour/ ) We’ve been busy, but I did manage to get in one trip to Ulta this week and I finally jumped on the bandwagon and picked up the ever-so talked about L’Oreal True Match foundation. I had purchased one not too long ago, but unfortunately I’m terrible at judging colors and it was a little too dark, but will work well after I get back from Myrtle Beach with a tan. So I needed to get a color that matched me now so I could try it out for ya’ll!

ImageOne of the things that I noticed right off the bat about this product was the bottle. I love it! I think it’s perfect for summer travels, it fits perfectly into any travel makeup bags that I have, which is a huge plus for me. I also love how the bottle itself is clean and professional looking. It doesn’t have pictures, fancy fonts, or crazy colors on it. Packaging like that can be cute, but this is just simple and to the point, which I think we can all appreciate!

Now, on to the foundation talk… I highly recommend this product for anyone who’s having a tough time finding your perfect foundation shade. This line has a broad range of colors to choose from and, since the bottle is completely see through, you’re able to most accurately select the best color for yourself (even though I’m an idiot and still picked out the wrong color haha). This foundation goes on really smoothly and has a medium coverage finish to it. For myself, I went over a few spots with extra redness twice, but the first time around, it actually did really well in covering everything up! I apply this with my foundation brushes and I recommend that you do the same because it’s just gonna be a huuuge mess and not blend out well if you use your fingers!

Let me warn you: after applying this, it’s shiny. It’s absolutely necessary that you go over with a setting powder. If you’re a one-stop-shop kinda girl, this isn’t the foundation for you because it does take some extra care to blend it out well and apply your powder over it. I did notice as well that, throughout the day, there was some extra oil coming through around my T-zone that I needed to touch up with powder. Nothing too bad, but it was a minor inconvenience. I do have extremely, extremely oily skin though, so for those of you with normal to dry skin, this would be fine for you!

Final Verdict? It depends! I’m not gonna say this is the greatest foundation of life because I defiantly have some that I enjoy better, but this was nice! The price point was great, it’s readily available, easy to travel with, great shade range, and gives awesome coverage. My skin got greasy throughout the day, but it was nothing unmanageable. I won’t be pulling this out for everyday use, but it’s definitely going to be a great foundation to have in my arsenal. If you have oily skin like me, just be sure to bring your powder with you for touch ups! I do recommend this as a good drugstore foundation because it does just what it claims: it’s true matches to your skin! It held up well and I really don’t have too much to complain about. I wanted to try it for awhile and I’m glad I did! If you’ve tried this yourself, leave your thoughts down below so I can read ’em! If you have any questions, ask away (: Thanks for reading and I’ll talk to ya’ll later!

Gotta Have It or Live Without It: Nyx Natural Eyeshadow Palette

Hey, everyone! Happy Friday! Before I start my post today, I just wanna apologize that I haven’t posted as much this week as I would have liked to! I’ve been sooo busy. My mom just left and is going to be outta town for the weekend, so I’ve been helping her get packed and get things ready for her trip, among other things I had goin’ on this week. I’m hoping this weekend, or into next week at least, that I’ll get back to posting on a more regular basis! Anyway, today I’ve got a Gotta Have It or Live Without It makeup review for ya!

ImageThis is the newest eye shadow palette that I’ve purchase and it’s the Nyx Natural Palette! And I would like to take this moment to point out just how not centered it is in this picture… I had no idea it was that bad when I uploaded it. Embarrassing. hahah Anyway, you can get this eye shadow palette anywhere Nyx cosmetics are sold and I purchased mine at Ulta. Up in the top right corner is actually the price tag which did not come into focus, but I bought mine for $7.49. Kind of a weird price, but I didn’t feel that it was expensive at all since this palette comes with six different shadows.

ImageHere’s what all the shadows look like in the open package! I wish I would have gotten the time to swatch all of these shadows for ya, but I honestly didn’t even think about it. I would have preferred these shadows be a bit more pigmented than they actually are, but you don’t typically get too much color pay off with powder shadows. They’re not sheer by any means and still show up beautifully once you apply them, but for some you have to layer once or twice to get your desired color. Not too big of a deal, but I just wanted to warn any of ya in case that would be a problem.

Anyway, on to the shadow talk! As you can see, these shadows are nice and natural and the last two are perfect for a daytime smokey eye! I bought this palette about two weeks ago and I’ve been wearing some variation of a natural smokey eye almost every day! So this palette has already gotten a lot of wear time with me! I know my iPhone camera kind of distorted the coloring of these shadows, but that first shadow there on the far left is just a snow white color. It makes sucha pretty eyebrow highlight! And when you’re doing an eye look with these shadows, that white color just blends everything together perfectly. Love it. This palette also has the perfect mix of shimmer and more matte looking shadows, so depending on what you’re feeling that day or what look you’re going for, there’s defiantly going to be a shadow in here for ya to use.

Final Verdict? It depends! I wouldn’t say this is a product you need to drop everything and go out and buy right now at this exact second, but I do recommend it! These aren’t the best shadows that I’ve used, but they’re definitely 100% not the worst! For their price, you can’t go wrong. This is the perfect palette for beginners and those who are wanting to ease into learning how to do a smokey eye. Plus, this is going to make a great travel palette for me this summer! It’s small and compact and not expensive, so I can leave my more high-end shadows at home when traveling and bring this instead and still get a really pretty, fun look. If you’re someone who is more into more glammed out and sexy eye looks, I defiantly wouldn’t suggest you get this. I would hate for you to be disappointed. I just really love neutral colors with natural looks, so this was defiantly something I felt I needed to purchase! So, if you’re like me, this is something you’ll like! Basically, I’m really enjoying this palette and I’m happy I bought it!

Thanks so much for reading and be on the look out for my next few posts because I’m hoping to get back on a more daily posting schedule now that things have chilled down a bit! I’ll talk to ya’ll later! Have an awesome weekend!

Poolside Makeup Routine!

Hey, everyone! I hope ya’ll had an awesome weekend! I had sucha fun and relaxing one spent outside enjoying the beautiful central Illinois weather swimming all weekend! While I would love to be one of those girls that can just go swimming completely natural without a drop of makeup on, that’s just not possible for me (check out my problem skin post here: https://psmeganelizabeth.wordpress.com/2014/04/17/problem-skin-to-flawless-skin/ ). My skin is so damaged and scarred that I just feel so much more comfortable with a little bit of coverage on when hitting the pool. So my post today is for you ladies who feel the same way I do. Check out my poolside makeup routine below!

Photo: this dude. 😎

Obviously, I had to get a selfie for ya. haha This is my guy, Cody, and I! I wish I would have taken a picture more close up of my swim suit to share with ya’ll. I got it from Target for under $15 (really!) and I almost always get all of my swim suites from there! They have such an awesome selection full of different types of swim suites so everyone is sure to find something they love and feel comfortable in.

Image

Now on to the fun stuff: the makeup! First things first, you need to get yourself a good base, a good foundation. Obviously, for days when you’ll be outside sweating or swimming, a primer is necessary, but there’s so many out there for all different kinds of skin tones and problems, it’s hard for me to recommend just a generic one for everybody. I use Bare Minerals Oil Control primer, but that’s just me. Foundation, on the other hand, I swear by this Revelon ColorStay Whipped Foundation! I talk about this with you guys all the time and I’ll say it again: this stuff is amazing. I’m on my third jar and probably won’t be switching up my foundations any time soon! This stuff is perfect for pool days outside because it does just what it says it will: it stays! This is available at any drugstore for around $11.

I defiantly don’t want any bold lip color if I’m gonna be splashin’ around and sweating all day. The last thing I wanna worry about is fading and smearing lip color. For warm days mixed with chlorine which can be extra drying, you need something that’s going to be moisturizing so I defiantly recommend (and use myself!) these Maybelline Baby Lips! They give you sheer color with tons of moisture. Plus the color and the packaging just screams summer time! You can find these at any drugstore as well as Ulta for under $5.

Image

Obviously, sweat-proofing your makeup is a must! To do that, you need to use a setting powder of some sort. This Rimmel Stay Matte Powder is awesome because it sets everything so beautifully without any of the cakiness that can sometimes come with other powders. This powder never fades, smudges, cakes, or creases and it keeps the shine at bay all day. You can buy this at any drugstore for under $5.

And the best for last? A setting spray! This Ben Nye Final Seal Setting Spray is my holy grail setting spray and it’s one of my holy grail beauty products in general. I do not know how I lived without this magical stuff before and I don’t plan on ever giving it up! I’m not going to get too much into it because I’ve done a whole blog post on it before (https://psmeganelizabeth.wordpress.com/2014/04/04/gotta-have-it-or-live-without-it-ben-nye-final-seal/ ) and I rave about it constantly, but just know that you NEED this in your life. Especially for summer! Even through sweating and swimming, my makeup stayed right in place and never faded, even on my oily skin! You need to check this stuff out. I promise!

I hope ya’ll enjoyed this kinda quick post and I hope it helped some of ya’ll out! If you have any questions about anything I talked about or anything else, just ask me in the comments below! I get all my notifications sent right to my phone so I answer right away (: If you loved this post, don’t forget to like it and then give me a follow if you aren’t already for more posts like this! Thanks so much for hanging out with me today and I’ll talk to ya’ll later!

May Favorites! (:

Image

Happy Friday, everyone! It’s officially gettin’ down to the last couple days in May, so ya’ll know what that means… it’s time for another monthly favorites blog post! Before I get into everything, I just wanna say something really quick. When I do my monthly favorites (actually when I do pretty much all of my blog posts) I like to use drugstore or relatively available and non-expensive products. I do this because I wanna include everyone, no matter their money situation. A few years ago when money wasn’t easy to come by for me, I would watch makeup tutorials on YouTube and I would always get so disappointed because they never used any drugstore products, making all of the looks they created difficult for me to figure out. I never want anyone else to feel like that, so I just prefer to use products that I love, can be found almost anywhere, and I know ya’ll will love too! Of course, if you ever have any questions about any high end products, don’t be afraid to ask! I just won’t typically do a blog post including them. So, with that outta the way, let’s get to my May favorites!

Image

This Olay moisturizer has been a staple of mine for years! I’m actually not for sure if I’ve included this in a previous monthly favorites before, but I love it, so why not include it again, right? haha The thing that’s most important to me in a moisturizer is the SPF factor. You should be wearing SPF everyday, but it’s especially vital during summer. I don’t have sensitive skin, but I have acne-prone skin so I can’t usually wear sunscreen on my face because it breaks me out. So I have to use a moisturizer with SPF in year round. I first tried this out in high school and haven’t switched since! I’ve tried others, but I always, always, always come back to my good ol’ Olay. It’s available at any drugstore as well as Ulta and it’s for around $5 (:

Image

While we’re on the topic of moisturizing, let’s talk about Maybelline Baby Lips! I’m obsessed with this line. Baby Lips and EOS lip balm are my favorites and I especially love this line because these Baby Lips lip balms have some sheer color to them that are just gorgeous for the summer months! This pretty pink color is Pink Punch and it tastes and smells like strawberry lemonade. Uhmm, yes please! If you guys haven’t tried Baby Lips before, I really have no idea what you’re waiting for! They’re widely available, cheap, and really keep your lips soft! Plus the adorable packaging is to die for.

Image

Ya know what I just realized? I believe I’ve included these Nyx Butter Glosses before in another one of my monthly favorites. Apparently, I’m just full of repeats today. haha But this color is one that I just recently purchased, so I know I haven’t done this specific one yet. This is a gorgeous berry colored gloss called Strawberry Parfait.

Image

Here’s what Strawberry Parfait looks like on! I tried to pucker my lips a little bit so you could see it better, but I ended up looking like I had a partial face paralysis hahah Excuse my extreme lack of photogenic skills. Anyway, what I love most about this Nyx Butter Gloss line is that these glosses never dry my lips out and they never feel heavy. They’re just light and give you the perfect amount of shine and color! These can be found wherever Nyx products (I always get mine at Ulta) and they’re for under $5.

Image

I don’t know what it is with me and my little mascara obsession, but I go through mascara like it’s no one’s business. Once my mascara even dries up just the slightest little bit, I throw it away just so I can go try a new one. haha I can honestly say that I’ve never once bought the same mascara twice. I’ve never found one that just blows me away (if ya’ll have any recommendations, let me know!). This is the Maybelline Pumped Up Colossal Mascara in black and, while it doesn’t blow me away, I have enjoyed using it. It takes some time to get used it because you can’t just go in like you would with other mascaras. This clumps and gets that spidery look really easily, so you need to go in with a really light hand and build gently from there. I don’t remember how much this one costs (I usually just grab drugstore mascaras without even looking at the cost haha) but I got mine at Walmart and I can assure you it was under $5. Would I ever purchase this again? Nahh, probably not. But I included it in my May favorites because it’s been my favorite mascara to use this month!

Image

You guys, I am sucha freak when it comes to Biore products. I know I am and I know it’s bad haha I’m pretty sure I include another one of their washes and scrubs every single month. I even did a whole post about Biore a few months ago, so check that out here: https://psmeganelizabeth.wordpress.com/2014/04/15/my-tried-and-true-skincare-line/. This is their new facial cleanser that I picked up at the beginning of this month and I’ve been absolutely loving ever since! This is their Charcoal Pore Unclogging Face Cleanser and I believe it was a little over $5 available at any drugstore. In this picture, I pumped some out on my hand for ya so you could see that it really is charcoal! (Charcoal is proven to be a really amazing skin cleanser.) One of the things I love most about this is that you can use this all over your body, not just your face. If body breakouts are a problem for you, this is a wash you need to try out! Especially during the summer time when you have extra sweat, oil, dirt, and chlorine stickin’ to ya. After you use this, you’ll instantly notice a difference in your skin. You’ll be able to tell how deep down it cleaned and you’ll be left with a really fresh, clean feeling. The only thing is make sure that you follow up with a moisturizer because this can sometimes tighten your skin.

Image

I hate the Kardashians. I’ll be the first to happily admit that. I think they’re annoying, spoiled, selfish people and I genuinely can’t stand any of them. But Kim’s wedding dress? I’m pretty sure we can all agree how elegant, classy, and gorgeous it is on her. I was 100% expecting her to come prancing down that isle in a tight, low-cut dress with a slit up to her lady muffin in 8 inch heels. Obviously, I was pleasantly surprised! I still hate the girl, but her dress deserved a spot on my May favorites list!

I hope ya’ll enjoyed this monthly favorites post! Remember, if ya’ll have any mascara recommendations (or any other products you think I should try out!), please let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear what you’re favorites are. As always, don’t forget to like this post and then give me a follow if you aren’t already for more beauty and lifestyle related posts like this one (: Thanks so much for hangin’ out with me for a little bit today and I’ll talk to ya’ll later! Enjoy your weekends!

Gotta Have It or Live Without It: Nyx Matte Lipstick

Hi, everyone! I’ve got a Gotta Have It or Live Without makeup review for ya tonight! It’s over the Nyx Matte Lipstick line (:

Image

When summer finally rolls around, that’s when bright, colorful makeup comes into play! I especially love experimenting with bold lip colors during the warmer months. But between the summer heat and humidity, drinking and eating, talking and laughing, swimming and sweating… it’s almost impossible to find a lip color that last through all of that. I had pretty much given up all hope on finding a lipstick that lasts and settled on just wearing basic lip balm all summer. Don’t get me wrong, lip balm is fantastic and I still do wear it everyday when I’m doing a lot less makeup. But for parties, nights out, and special events, I still need myself a great lip color that won’t fade, smear, or smudge! That’s where this Nyx Matte Lipstick line comes in (:

I had just recently used this lipstick line for the first time only about two weeks ago. I wore this gorgeous deep red color to my cousin’s wedding. I applied it before I left and tucked it away in my clutch ready to constantly reapply like I’d done with every other lipstick in the history of ever. But through pictures, eating dinner, chowing down on dessert, drinking, talking, and laughing, it never faded. That’s absolutely incredible, so let me say that again in case you didn’t quite catch that… THIS LIPSTICK NEVER FADED. Like, never. It never faded. Through out the whoooole night, it still looked as perfect as when I first put it on! Can we all just take a second and fan-girl together? I only reapplied ONCE the whole entire day. ONCE. JUST ONCE! And that time wasn’t really even that bad, I just wanted a little bit more color intensity for pictures. Other than that, I was free to forget about my lips for the rest of the night because I had no doubt it wouldn’t fail me! It was pretty magical. haha

Nyx Matte Lipsticks come in a cute, little black tube like you see above with a clear part so you can tell your colors apart. The thing I love most about this lipstick is that gorgeous matte finish it has. I love shine just like the next girl and the fun thing about this line is that, with the matte finish, you can build your lip gloss on top if you so please. But I didn’t use any gloss at the wedding and still got tons of compliments.

Final verdict? GOTTA HAVE IT! This isn’t even a “ehhh. it’s alright.” This is a 100%, head over heels in love, I completely, totally, and wholeheartedly NEED this product in my life! I have no idea how I survived without this being in my beauty routine before. haha Nyx Matte Lipsticks are available wherever Nyx products are sold and I picked mine up at Ulta for less than $5! I’ve only used it a few times, so maybe it’s too soon to claim this, but I’m pretty positive I’ve found my holy grail lipstick. Please, trust me on this, you NEED this in your life! Promise!

Summer Look of the Week: Hayden Panettiere!

Happy Friday, everyone! I hope ya’ll are havin’ a great day and have some fun plans this weekend! Wedding season is upon us, so I have another wedding event to go to this weekend. I’m excited, but I’m pretty sure that I’m gonna be all wedding-ed out by the end of this summer haha With the summer heat really starting to pick up, I’ve got summer makeup looks on my mind today, so naturally, I think it’s time for another Look of the Week! This week I’m featuring the lovely and oh so flawless Hayden Panettiere!

Image

This girl can rock natural makeup like it’s no one’s business. I choose this particular look because I thought it would be perfect for those warm summer nights! It’s nothing too crazy, but she still looks put together and stunning. Read on to see what products I would recommend in order to recreate this same look!

Image

If you notice in the above picture, Hayden just appears to be glowing from within. She’s got this really radiant, beautiful shimmer to her that I just adore for the warmer months. It looks healthy and natural! If you want this same glow, let me introduce you to your new best friend: L’Oreal Lumi Foundation. It’s almost like this foundation has a highlight in it which just accentuates and brings out the natural glow that you already have. The sun reflects off of this so beautifully that those guys at the beach aren’t gonna be able to keep their eyes off of ya! You’re welcome (;

Image

For this look, I really wanna emphasize natural, dewy looking skin, rather than a strong, matte face, so you’ll need a highlight for this as well. I 100% recommend using the Maybelline Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser. Just find the shade that matches your skin the closest and then go bout 2 to 3 shades lighter to find your perfect highlight. For me, it’s the lightest color this line has to offer. Yay for being pale! You’ll then apply this underneath your eyes, down the center of your nose, in the middle of your chin, and in the middle of your forehead. Blend the highlight out and you’ll instantly notice a more awake, glowy look on your skin.

Image

When doing natural makeup, one of the most important things you can do is apply a good, pigmented blush. Applying a pink-y blush right on the apples of your cheeks (then blend it outward, toward your ear) is gonna give you this really beautiful color and wake up your whole face. I recommend Milani’s Baked Blush line. These blushes have color plus shimmer plus bronzing in them to give you the most natural color possible. In the picture for Hayden’s look, the thing I was most drawn to was her blush. Just imagine her look without it: she wouldn’t look nearly as alert, healthy, or radiant. Blush really does make that big of a difference.

Image

Hayden’s makeup artist just gave her a really soft lip look. Feel free to use a neutral lipstick and gloss, but honestly, all that I would use is a lip balm with a little color and shimmer in it. If you haven’t already tried the Maybelline Baby Lips line, you’re seriously missing out! They moisturize, give you the perfect amount of color and shine, plus, you can’t even tell me the packaging isn’t freaking adorable. Stop it, Maybelline. Just stop it. You’re killin’ me.

Image

Last but not least: the eyes. If you want something a little more dramatic, then go ahead and go in with liner and neutral colored eye shadow. But for a natural summer look, I typically just go in with some mascara and call it a day. When you’re not doing liner, it’s important that you find a great mascara so your eyes don’t get lost on your face. Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara is a heaven sent for those of you who are like me… lacking those long, voluptuous eye lashes! This mascara really does what it claims it will. It makes you appear like you’re wearing falsies! This doesn’t streak, fade, clump, or fall throughout the day for me and I haven’t heard any complaints from many others either, so this is a safe bet. Plus, Ulta just started carrying Benefit products so this is more readily available now (:

I have oily skin, so I would need to finish this look off with some powder and then go back in with a setting spray to assure that everything will stay during the day. Do whatever you feel most comfortable with, but I do always recommend using something to set everything with. I know Mac has some really gorgeous setting powders, but I’m not too picky with that so I just use some drugstore powder! Use what you love (: Also, this look is pretty versatile… if you want more bronzing, add more! If you want more dramatic eye makeup, add more! If you want more lip color, add more! You get what I’m saying? haha That’s the glory of natural makeup. You can do virtually whatever you want with it!

I hope ya’ll enjoyed reading this summer inspired Look of the Week post and if you have any questions about anything, ask away! Don’t forget to like and then give me a follow for more posts like this! Thanks so much for hanging out with me this morning and I’ll talk to ya’ll later! Enjoy your Friday!

Gotta Have It or Live Without It: E.L.F Zit Zapper

Hi, everyone! So I recently had a Target and Ulta shopping spree buying more unnecessary things that I just don’t need! Yay! I went to Target a little over a week ago and I went to Ulta yesterday. If ya’ll wanna see a complete haul post, just let me know, but I plan on doing makeup reviews for most of the products, so you’ll get to see most of them anyway. Today is a Gotta Have It or Live Without It review over an E.L.F product that I purchased at Target.

Image

I had already purchased a bunch of makeup and things and then I stumbled upon this right when I was about to leave. This is the E.L.F Zit Zapper. You can find it at any drugstore that sells E.L.F products. Cody tried to convince me not to buy it, but it was only $1 and my will power is extremely low when it comes to makeup… so I ended up buying it. haha Normally I like to use new products for two or three weeks before I give ya’ll a review over it, but I have some pretty strong feelings toward this product, so I needed to do it sooner!

As I mentioned, this is only $1. Before I snatched it up, I read the label to see what ingredients this had in it that supposedly causes it to zap zits, hence the name. It claims to be made of salicylic acid, tea tree oil, and witch hazel. Notice that I used the word “claimed.” I say that because there’s a 99.9% chance this product DOESN’T actually contain all that, and if it does, it doesn’t contain enough of those ingredients to actually do anything. But, nevertheless, little dumb me bought it anyway!

When I used it, I didn’t have any crazy zits on my face at all, but I wanted to use it anyway, so I found one teeny tiny, microscopic breakout on my forehead and used it there. Let me show you the #1 thing that I hate about this product….

Image

Can you see that? That’s a little tiny roller ball that’s used to apply this liquid to your face. If that doesn’t scream ‘unsanitary,’ I’m not sure what does. I was grossed out immediately. The bacteria from any breakout that you use this on is just going to stick there and keep transferring on to all other places you decide to use this. It’s like a little bacteria garden. Disgusting. As if that wasn’t bad enough, this product 100% dried out my skin. I just applied it on that one spot and when I woke up in the morning, I discovered that breakout was still there, but everything around it was dry and flaking. Not fun.

Final Verdict? LIVE WITHOUT IT! Basically, it just dried out everything except what it was actually supposed to dry out. Zap zits? Uhmm, more like zap moisture outta your skin! I’m so not okay with that. After applying one of my favorite spot treatments and moisturizers, my little breakout was gone over night and my skin was back to normal. Feel free to purchase this and give it a try yourself, but use at your own risk and be ready with some great moisturizer come morning time!

If ya’ll are wanting to read more about my favorite spot treatments or my review on tea tree oil and witch hazel, just hop on over to the search bar on my blog, type it in, and learn all about it! Thanks so much for reading and I’ll talk to ya’ll later (:
